    5. How to grow successful partnerships that endure all market conditions.
    6. Effective use of an initial program as the building block for future opportunities.

Organization: AXA XL, a division of AXA


Steven Bauman works for AXA XL serving as Director of Global and Captive Programs in The Americas. His responsibilities are to assist customers, brokers and internal stakeholders in the formation of risk management solution oriented Global & Captive Programs. Mr. Bauman has more than 35 years of experience in corporate insurance and captive services. He previously worked as Head of Captive Programs for Zurich Insurance Group, as SVP for AON's Captive Services Group, for XL Insurance Company (formally XL Winterthur International) and at Marsh in the Global Services Group division. Steven began at American Risk Management (ARM), part of The Reiss Organization, where Mr. Fred Reiss and company were widely credited with popularizing the captive insurance company concept.

Ryan Gadapee's practice focuses primarily on the representation of domestic and international insurers and reinsurers including captives, reciprocals and risk retention groups. Ryan's practice deals with representing clients in regulatory, legislative, transactional and general corporate matters. His diverse experience has led him to unique roles like being the general counsel of a Florida based property insurer during its initial growth and expansion phases, and overseeing a national carrier in its litigated claims arising out of the historic 2004-2005 Florida hurricane seasons. He has experience in creating and maintaining policy forms and underwriting manuals; claims handling and defense; and ongoing corporate and regulatory compliance. Ryan is a frequent speaker at industry events, with significant experience regarding legislative matters as well. He has a recognized ability to foster relationships with key legislators, regulators, and stakeholders from all sides of the political spectrum.

Jeremy "JJ" Johnson serves as the Vice President of Global Risk for Revantage, a shared services company that supports Blackstone Real Estate's operations. In his role, JJ is responsible for leading the Vermont domiciled global captive, Gryphon, and sourcing alternative risk transfer solutions that minimize total cost of risk while ensuring lending compliant coverage for the portfolio's many risk exposures. With over a decade of experience, JJ joined Revantage in August of 2022. Prior to joining Revantage, he served as Risk Manager for Amazon, where he played a pivotal role in structuring Amazon Logistics' Last Mile Insurance and Risk Management program. In this position, JJ oversaw multiple functions, including claims, contractor relations, and captive insurance. JJ holds the designations of CPCU, CRM, and ARM. He also serves on the Board of Directors for Franciscan Outreach, the largest emergency homeless shelter provider in the Chicago-land area, where he leads their Risk and Finance Sub-Committee. He graduated from Illinois State University in 2009 with a B.S. in public relations.
