    Making the most of your captive’s annual meeting will set you up to comply with regulatory and audit requirements, plan future strategies, and stay up-to-date on accounting and legal changes. In this session, you will hear from an attorney, a service provider, and a captive owner to learn the basics of a captive board, as well as expectations and goals of the annual board meeting. Discover the skillset and effective techniques that will enable you to be a productive captive board member. Consider attending the August 9th 10am session “Igniting Board Engagement – Innovative Ways to Fire-Up Your Board” as a follow up and complement to this session.

    • Demonstrate the requirements for an Annual Meeting in Vermont

Organization: United Educators Insurance, a RRRG


Joe Carter sets the strategy for UE’s growth, which includes planning the sales, marketing, and distribution strategies that ensure success. He is also responsible for teams that manage UE’s brand and constituent experience strategy, the Voice of Constituent (VOC) program, digital experience, member support, marketing, and communications. Prior to joining UE, he served in executive and leadership roles at Bank of America, Prudential Property and Casualty, and Allstate Corporation. He currently serves as a board member for the National Business Officers Association headquartered in Washington, D.C., and is an active member of several other education-focused associations.

Rebecca (Becky) James is a Partner in the Burlington, Vermont office of Johnson Lambert LLP. She is responsible for providing audit, tax, consulting, engagement management and other related services to numerous insurance entities, including commercial insurance and reinsurance companies, risk retention groups, captives and various other alternative risk structures. She joined Johnson Lambert LLP in 2006 upon graduating from Saint Michael’s College in Colchester, Vermont. Becky is a member of the AICPA, the Institute of Internal Auditors and the Vermont Society of CPAs. Becky is also a current member of the Vermont Board of Accountancy and serves as the treasurer of the Texas Captive Insurance Association.

Peter McDougall is a shareholder, director and president at Paul Frank + Collins P.C. where he is a member of the firm’s captive and commercial law teams. His practice focuses on advising captive and traditional insurance clients regarding formation, regulatory compliance, entity structure, corporate governance and contract drafting and negotiations. Pete has an L.LM. degree from the Morin Center for Banking and Financial Services Law at Boston University School of Law; a J.D. degree, cum laude, from Vermont Law School; and a B.S. from the University of Vermont. While in law school Pete served as a law clerk to the Vermont Department of Banking, Insurance, Securities and Health Care Administration (now known as the Vermont Department of Financial Regulation) and as a law clerk to Senator Patrick Leahy and the United States Senate Judiciary Committee.
