    Due to social inflating, captives face significant challenges in pricing and reserving in the current climate. Social inflation has affected several insurance coverages, including general liability, auto liability, and medical malpractice to name a few. In this session, attendees will walk away with an understanding of social inflation trends in the captive insurance industry. Using a case study, one captive owner will share how they are working to get ahead of social inflation and put the captive in a better position to deal with unfavorable jury verdicts in the future. Additional case studies will be examined to explore the impact of social inflation across a broad sector of industries and their captive insurance companies.   
     
    Learning objectives: Upon completion, participants will: 
                                 - Be able to identify some of the underlying causes of social inflation  
                                    - Understand the impact social inflation is having on certain lines of insurance  
                                 - Understand some ways to potentially mitigate the impact of social inflation

Andrea Monterotti is a consulting actuary with Milliman. Since joining the firm in 2016, Andrea has focused on the alternative risk financing market. Andrea’s experience in property and casualty actuarial work includes loss reserving, ratemaking, data analysis, and feasibility studies. Andrea supports the ongoing actuarial needs of numerous clients, ranging from multiline property and casualty insurers and self-insurers to captives and risk retention groups. Andrea is a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries.


Organization: Strategic Risk Solutions Vermont Ltd.


Michael O’Malley is a managing director for Strategic Risk Solutions. Mike is responsible for the overseeing the delivery of all SRS’ business planning consulting services, including statistical loss and exposure analyses, feasibility studies, implementation programs, and financial analysis for captives and other types of risk financing programs. Mike has over 20 years’ experience in the captive and insurance industries and has formed captives and risk retention groups in 12 different domiciles. Mike has a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance/Economics from Bentley College and an MBA (with concentrations in entrepreneurship and finance from Babson College. He holds an Associate in Risk Management (ARM), an Associate in Reinsurance (ARe), and a Certificate in Enterprise Risk Management from the CERMAS program at Georgia State University.


Organization: Equinox Insurance Company


Kimberly Rohr, CPA, MBA, is the Head of Risk Management, NA at Electrolux and the President of Equinox Insurance Company, which is the Electrolux’s NA captive. As of August of 2022, she has 20 years of experience with Electrolux where she’s spent most of the time within the finance community in various roles of increasing responsibility. She previously held the role Senior Director of Accounting Reporting and Shared Services which involved leading a 90+ member team through transformational change projects. She’s now joined the Electrolux Risk Management team and have loved every moment.
